ABOUT EVENT


The ICDI UK- Strengthening Legislature Boot Camp and Good Governance Workshop program is an International learning platform for elected Legislative, Government Leaders, and other Public officials for learning and sharing ideas and building skills in the critical areas of Legislative System works and Good Governance; Leadership, Diplomacy, Social Accountability, Constituency Project-Management, Participatory Budgeting and Development Management with the objective of bridging the gap between legislation, governance, people’s administration and other essential necessities for achieving development.

WHERE?

The ICDI UK- Strengthening Legislature Boot Camp and Good Governance Workshop 2025 UK will take place on 4th August to 8th August 2025 partly at the Willow Training Centre, Wyboston Lakes Resort and Residential Conference Centre, Bedford, and the prestigious Chatham House, London.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

The training and workshop are designed as a unique platform for capacity building, a retreat and also a development portal aimed at improving legislative and parliamentary officials’ knowledge, their governance and administrative management and operational capacity and the real needs of law-makers based on current best global practice.

Participants includes but are not limited to:

  • Government functionaries, development experts and technocrats.
  • State ministries officials and principals, and their advisers.
  • Ministers and government representatives – central, regional and local.
  • Lawyers and journalists – press and media.
  • Civil society policy, program and strategy makers and their advisers.
  • Professional and trade bodies working on legislation, leadership, management, social accountability and public administration.
  • Officials with responsibility for good governance, women’s and youth development and mobilization, participatory budgeting, etc.

WHAT DOES THE EVENT OFFER?

The 5-day program, consists of four components: Boot-Camp presentations & Keynote Speeches1; Training sessions and Legislative Workshop2; Networking Roundtables and Film Presentations3; and a Specialized Excursion Trip to the UK House of parliament.

The program brings together unique insights from Legislative and Parliamentary experts. It will build capacity for political leadership, legislative and advocacy management, and its sessions will include recognised international plenary speakers, members of UK house of parliament, workshops and training experts and consultants, as well as “real-world” skills developers with cognate experiences.

Modules covered in the programme will include but not limited to:

  • Strengthening Legislature, People confidence and Relationship with other arms of Government.
  • Developing and Managing Constituency Projects.
  • The difference between House of Assembly and Government.
  • How a bill becomes a law.
  • How members of the public can get involved.
  • Global Trends in understanding Legislature and the shift in electoral practices.
  • Law making in action.
  • Government’s legislative programme.
  • Checking and challenging the government’s agenda.
  • Comprehensive view of how the legislative system works.
  • Proposing new legislation.
  • How laws are introduced, checked and passed.
  • Getting involved and directly engaging the public in the law-making process.
  • Participatory Budgeting and People Accountability

Delegates will be able to establish consortia with other parliamentarians across the UK, work on the different tools of engagements and advocacy. The boot camp programme and workshops will be highly interactive with room for discussion of experiences, case studies and exercises. In the end, the participants will have gained a full overview and knowledge on what it takes to assume leadership roles, function effectively in the legislative house, promote legislation and good governance as well as advocate issues of public interests.

 

ABSTRACT AND PAPER SUBMISSION

This year’s Bootcamp and Workshop Speakers, Special Guests and Presenters will be published on the
event website, however proposals for paper and poster presentations can still be submitted by participants.

The deadline for submission of abstracts for paper and poster presentations has now been extended to
Friday 20th of June 2025.

Please email your initial proposed abstracts and draft poster design to: mailus@icdi-uk.net
The Programme select committee will inform you via email if your abstract/draft is selected for full paper/poster presentation.
The deadline for submission of Full paper/poster submission is Friday 25th of July, 2025.

HOW TO REGISTER

Interested participants should complete the registration form on the event website or request for a softcopy by emailing: mailus@icdi-uk.net and make payment either online with debit card or via PayPal or just pay by cash to our accredited agent and partners, and we will initially send you an acknowledgement email, followed afterwards by your official invite letters, or visa-letters – if required, and other programme documentation once your application has been processed by our programme team. Or just email us at: mailus@icdi-uk.net to signify your interest and we will contact you.

  1. Complete the online registration form here - We will acknowledge receipt and send you a registration fees invoice, which must be fully paid within 14 days.
  2. Complete your registration by making payment online (via PayPal here, or by bank deposit (ensure to email receipt with your name and email to: mailus@icdi-uk.net).
